This account action was asked for too often. Wait for the time in retry_after, then try again.

What this means​

Two dashboard actions have their own limits. A deletion code (the 6-digit code that confirms deleting an account) can be requested once a minute and five times an hour. A data export ("Download my data") runs one at a time per account. This request came too soon, so nothing was sent or started. retry_after says how many seconds to wait.

When you'll see this​

  • Send code was pressed again before the first email arrived.
  • Several codes were requested in a short time, for example from more than one browser tab.
  • Download my data was pressed while an earlier download was still being prepared.

Each deletion code is valid for 10 minutes and five tries, and an older code stops working when a new one is sent. The limits keep the account's inbox from being flooded. An export streams every record the account holds; running one at a time keeps a large account's export from slowing the service for everyone.

Quick fix
  1. For a code: check the inbox, and the spam folder, for the code already sent. If it hasn't arrived, wait for retry_after seconds and press Send code again.
  2. For an export: let the download in progress finish, or wait for retry_after seconds and press Download my data again.

Only the dashboard receives this error. API keys never see it, and nothing in an integration needs to handle it.

Avoid this error by​

  • Request one code and wait a minute for it to arrive before asking again.
  • Press Download my data once and let the file finish downloading.
  • Add [email protected] to your contacts so account emails aren't filtered.
